Variant namesAcademic. Ernest Julius Walter Simon was born 1893, died 22 Feb. 1981. Walter Simon was Professor of Chinese, University of London, 1947-1960. He began his career as a librarian in Berlin and emigrated to England in 1936 after his licence to teach was withdrawn and his services as a librarian were terminated under the Nazi regime. He taught at the University of London as lecturer, reader and finally, professor of Chinese. The papers were acquired in 1982 with a collection of books held in the National Library of Australia, Asian Collection.
