Ebert, Carl, 1887-1980
Variant namesCarl Ebert first met Alma Mahler when he was director of the Städtische Oper in Berlin in the early 1930s (she mentions the meeting in her memoir Mein Leben); he emigrated in 1934, and was co-founder of the Glyndebourne Festival Opera House in Sussex; later, he was director of the Städtische Oper in West Berlin (1954-1961). Gertie Ebert was the wife of Carl Ebert.
