Aislabie, John, 1670-1742
Variant namesJohn Aislabie, British politician, was a member of Parliament for Ripon 1695-1721 and for Northallerton, 1702. He held several cabinet posts including Chancellor of the Exchequer 1714-1718. In 1719, he supported the South Sea Company's scheme for paying off the national debt. The company failed and he was expelled from the house in 1721.
