Poet and playwright. Jennifer Compton was born in 1949 in New Zealand where she lived until 1971. From 1972 Compton divided her time between Australia and New Zealand, finally settling at Wingello in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales in 1981. She has published several volumes of poetry, including From the other woman (1993), Blue (2000), and Parker & Quink (2004). Her plays include The big picture (1999). Compton was the winner of the Robert Harris poetry prize in 1995 for her poem "Blue leaves" and was joint winner of the Newcastle Playwriting competition in 1974 for her play Crossfire. She has been shortlisted and highly commended in a number of awards for her short stories. Several of her plays have been performed and her stories and poems appear in a number of periodicals.
