Frederick Henry Mueller (1893-1976) was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was a graduate of Michigan State University in 1914. From 1914 to 1955, he was a General Partner with the Mueller Furniture Company of Grand Rapids, and from 1941 to 1946 was the General Manager of Grand Rapids Industries, Inc. From 1941 to 1955, he was President of the Furniture Mutual Insurance Company. He served as the Assistant Secretary of Commerce of the United States from 1955 to 1958, and from 1958 to 1959, served as the Under Secretary of Commerce, then from 1959 to 1961 served as Secretary of Commerce.
