Irish born lithographer, portraitist and caricaturist, Doyle worked in London as a portrait lithographer and eventually turned to political caricature. His plates were issued by the publisher, Thomas M. McLean, in volume form both in 1841 and 1844. Doyle used the pseudonym H.B. to sign most of his works. He was considered to be the first political caricaturist of the 19th century.
