American educator and composer. Acton E. Ostling attended Conway Band School at Ithaca College. Went to Endicott, NY in 1927; remained there for 36 years, serving as director of the Union-Endicott High School Band, and Supervisor of Music. Ostling played trombone, baritone horn, and drums. He studied the history of New England fife and drum corps music, and published on that subject, as well as musical education texts and method books. Ostling was born in Chester, CT, on April 13, 1906; he died in Sarasota, FL, on Sept 1, 1993. His son, Acton Eric Ostling, Jr. (b. 1936) is also a music educator and a retired band director.
