Stella Pevsner was born in Lincoln, IL. She attended Illinois University and Northwestern University. In addition to her career as a writer, she has worked as a teacher and an advertising copywriter. One of her children challenged her to write an entertaining book for kids, and she decided to give it a try. Break a Leg was published a year later, and many successful juvenile novels dealing with contemporary life have followed. She has written on such topics as divorce, dyslexia, sibling rivalry, and suicide. Pevsner's many books for adolescents are a testament to her abilty to entertain and enlighten young people.
