Kirby, William, 1817-1906
Variant namesWilliam Kirby was born in Kingston-upon-Hull, England, Oct.13,1817; came to Canada in 1832; settled in Niagara, U.C., in 1839, and there for twenty years edited the "Niagara Mail". From 1871-1895 he was collector of customs at Niagara. He was the author of poems, historical articles, and "Le Chien d'Or". He married the daughter of John Whitmore; and died, June 23, 1906.
