Henry Francis Harrington (1814-1887), son of Joseph and Rebecca Smith Harrington, was born in Roxbury, Mass., and graduated from Harvard in 1834. After editing a newspaper in Boston, Mass., and a periodical in New York City, he became a Unitarian minister in Providence, R.I., from 1841 to 1844. He founded Unitarian societies in Albany and Troy, N.Y., and Lawrence, Mass., and was pastor of the Lee Street Unitarian Society from 1855 to 1865. In 1865, he became Superintendent of Schools in New Bedford, Mass., and held that position until his death.
