Haman Shelton was born in Virginia and was married to Priscilla Fitzgerald.
They arrived in Oregon in 1847 and settled on a donation land claim near Scio, Oregon. They had 12 children, one of whom, Harvey (1822-1893) served in the Oregon State Legislature.
