Wotton, Thomas, 1521-1587
Variant namesThomas Wotton was active in political affairs in the county of Kent during the reign of Elizabeth I and was known for his learning and wealth. His extensive library contained many gold-tooled bindings, and thus he is sometimes referred to as "the English Grolier" in an allusion to the French bibliophile Jean Grolier (1489-1565).
