Elkanah Jones (1761-1849) was born in Hebron, Connecticut. A cabinet maker by trade, he served as a private during the American Revolution and kept detailed diaries of his experiences during the war and for many years afterwards. He never married, and lived his last years with his niece Abigail and her husband Jonathan Goldsmith in Painesville, Ohio.

Her diary entries date from July 1 to July 30, 1930. Her companions for the trip included Zelma Smith, Edna Zell, and a Mrs. Crocket.

Michael Langohr was a U.S. Forest Ranger and supervisor of Gallatin National Forest at the turn of the twentieth century. He was born in Adrian, Michigan on April 14, 1860 and came to Montana in 1898. He ran a grocery store in Bozeman, for a time, and began working for the forest service shortly thereafter. Olney Taylor came to Montana from Maine in 1882 where he settled on land near Park City in the lower Yellowstone River valley. He established several fruit orchards, especially experiencing success with apples. Taylor also served as a member of the Montana State Board of Horticulture and wrote a report on fruit culture in the First Annual Report of the Montana Farmer's Institutes (Helena: Independent Publishing Company, 1902), 189-194.
