Overland journey to California from West Virginia /by John S. Wilson, 1859-1860.

Wilson's journal records an 1859 trip from Wheeling, West Virginia to California, although he had originally set out for Pike's Peak. Wilson went by way of St. Joseph, the Oregon Trail, Salt Lake City, Ogden, the Humboldt, and Yreka by the Honey Lake Road. He describes trail conditions, encounters with Indians, and life as a prospector. A trip to Washington Territory is recorded, but the party turned back after prospecting in Rogue River Valley, Oregon.
