Seaton Schroeder, rear admiral in the U.S. Navy, was born in 1849. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1869 and served in the Pacific and Asiatic Fleets. He assisted in transporting the Egyptian obelisk to Central Park, NY. He was in the USS Massachusetts during the Spanish-American War, served as governor of Guam, 1900-1903, commanded the USS Virginia during the round the world cruise of the Great White Fleet and was Commander in Chief of the Atlantic Fleet, 1909-1911. During World War I, he was hydrographer of the Navy.
