John Forsyth (1780-1841) was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on October 22. He graduated from Princeton in 1799 and was admitted to the bar in 1802. In 1808, Forsyth became the Attorney-General of Georgia. He was elected governor of Georgia in 1828. He married Clara Meigs, daughter of Josiah Meigs, who was the first president of Franklin College (later named the University of Georgia). Forsyth died on October 21, 1841.

"John Forsyth led a political career that lasted more than thirty years. ... Forsyth began his law practice in Augusta with John Y. Noel and gained a reputation as an outstanding lawyer. In 1808 he was elected attorney general of Georgia, which launched his political career. In 1813 Forsyth was elected as a Jeffersonian Republican to the Thirteenth U.S. Congress. He chaired the Committee on Expenditures and remained in the House of Representatives until November 1818, when he was elected to fill the U.S. Senate seat of George Troup." - "John Forsyth." John Forsyth, a Representative and a senator from Georgia, born in Fredericksburg, Va., on October 22, 1780. He graduated from the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University) in 1799, moved to Augusta, Ga., studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1802. He was elected to the United States Senate, and appointed secretary of state by President Andrew Jackson. Reappointed by President Martin Van Buren he served from 1834 to 1841. He died in Washington, D.C., on October 21, 1841.
