Gabriel Naudé was a French scholar and librarian of the Mazarin Library in Paris. His correspondents included the Italian composer Giovanni Battista Doni [Janus Nicius Erythraeus], the German mathematician Athanasius Kircher, the French philosopher and scientist Pierre Gassendi, the French philosopher Marin Marsenne, and the English author and poet Edward, Lord Herbert of Cherbury.
