Richard Fitzgerald, 1772 - 1840, convict, public servant and settler, was transported to New South Wales in 1791. He had some knowledge of agriculture and successive governors gave him increasing responsibilities connected with the public farms. In time he became a close friend of Governor and Mrs MacQuarie, and when they returned to England in 1822, he became their agent in Australia. From the description of Papers [manuscript].
