Robert B. MacLeod was born in Martintown, Ontario, Canada in 1907. He was an instructor at Cornell University from 1930-1933 and returned to the Cornell faculty in 1948, remaining in the Psychology Department until his death in 1972. He was an authority on experimental psychology in the areas of perception, language, and thinking, and he conducted research in cross-cultural psychology, especially Africa and the Middle East, the history and theory of psychology and phenomenology, educational theory, and the effects of malnutrition on mental development. He wrote five books and over 100 articles in his field. He served on the Board of Directors of the American Psychological Association and was president of several divisions of the association, including the division on teaching of psychology.
