Creighton, Harriet B. (Harriet Baldwin), 1909-

Harriet Baldwin Creighton (1909-2004), the Ruby F.H. Farwell Professor of Botany, graduated from Wellesley in 1929 and received her Ph.D. from Cornell in 1933. She taught at Cornell and at Connecticut College, returned to Wellesley as associate professor in 1940. Her term at Wellesley was broken in 1943-1946 by service in the Waves. Becoming a full professor at Wellesley in 1952, she was a Fulbright Lecturer in Genetics and Plant Physiology at the University of Western Australia and the University of Adelaide in 1952-1953. She was again a Fulbright Lecturer in 1959-1960, when she taught Genetics at the University of San Antonio Abad, one of the National Universities of Peru. Her sabbatical leave in 1966-1967 was spent as Research Associate in the Botany Department of the University of California in Berkeley and at the Cell Research Institute of the University of Texas in Austin. Miss Creighton retired as member of Wellesley faculty in 1974.
