Yzaguirre, Raúl.
Raúl Yzaguirre was born in 1939 in San Juan, Texas, a small town in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. He graduated from Alamo High School where he was on the debate team, and in 1958, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving for 4 years. In 1964, he founded the National Organization for Mexican American Services (NOMAS). He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University and worked as a program analyst in the Migrant Division of the U.S. Office of Economic Opportunity. In 1969, he founded Interstate Research Associates. He served as President and CEO of the National Council of La Raza from 1974-2004 and then served as president of Fundación Solidaridad Mexicano-Americana (Mexican-American Solidarity Foundation). In 2005, he established and served as director for the Center for Community Development and Civil Rights at Arizona State University.
