Winthrop, Robert C. (Robert Charles), 1809-1894
Robert Charles Winthrop (1809-1894), of Boston, Mass., was a U.S. Representative, 1840-1850, Speaker of the House, 1847-1849, and U.S. Senator, 1850-1851. He was a descendant of Gov. John Winthrop (1587-1649) and an attorney, lecturer, and president of the Massachusetts Historical Society.
