Davies, John, Sir, 1569-1626
Sir John Davies (1569-1626) was a lawyer and poet. Much admired for his poem, Nosce teipsum, Davies made his way into the court of Queen Elizabeth I and King James I. He became solicitor-general for Ireland in 1603, and attorney general in 1606.
