Dohnányi, Ernst von

Ernő Dohnányi was a Hungarian musician, composer, and educator. He showed early promise, and achieved world-wide acclaim as a piano virtuoso, introducing many lesser-known works to audiences. He also taught music, and was the key figure in reshaping Hungary's musical culture. After World War II, political pressures forced him to emigrate to Florida, where he accepted a professorial appointment to Florida State University, and where his performing career experienced a revival. His influence on Hungarian music remains incalculable.
