Barnes, Djuna

Djuna Barnes provided a highly creative presence in the Paris literary scene of the 1920s. An author and artist, she exhibited wildly original creative gifts, culminating in her provocative and influential novel, Nightwood. Soon after the success of Nightwood, however, she stopped writing, eventually returning to New York, where she lived the rest of her life as a near-recluse in her Greenwich Village apartment.
