Adeney, David H. (David Howard)

Missionary, author, educator; born November 3, 1911 in England; coverted, ca. 1919; graduated from Cambridge (BA in history, 1933; MA in theology, 1935); held administrative posts at local and national levels in British Christian student movement, Inter-Varsity Fellowship; worked with China Inland Mission in Henan Province (1934-1941) and with university student in Nanking and Shanghai (1946-1950), evacuating China in 1941 and 1950; married Ruth Temple, 1938; worked with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship in the U.S., 1950-1955; worked as Associate General Secretary for the Far East with International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES), 1956-1967; readmitted to China Inland Mission, by then renamed Overseas Missionary Fellowship (OMF), to establish and direct the Discipleship Training Center in Singapore, 1968-1976; taught at China Graduate School of Theology, 1976; was professor of Christian Mission at New College Berkeley, 1983-?; was minister-at-large for OMF; was president of IFES; returned to China on several trips after China was reopened to Western visitors in 1978.
