Lew, Jacob J., 1955-

This collection consists of administrative records from the Office of the Executive Vice President from 2002 to 2006, as well as some earlier background materials. The Office of the Executive Vice President is responsible for administration, finance and budget, facilities and construction, housing and residential services, campus services, and human resources at the university. The Executive Vice President is second in command to the President and oversees most internal organizational problems. Several events of great significance to the University are documented in the records of Lew's Executive Vice Presidency. The September 11 attacks prompted the University to study the varied security concerns of its sprawling campus. Efforts by graduate students to unionize led to the creation of the Graduate Students Organizing Committee (GSOC) and eventual affiliation with the United Auto Workers Union. The University also acquired several properties during this time period, notable among them the former Palladium building on East 14th Street.
