Senior rabbi (1954-1978), Rabbi Emeritus, civic leader, and social reformer, of Memphis, Tenn.; b. in St. Louis, Mo.; earlier served congregations at Glencoe, Ill., and St. Louis Mo.; moved to Memphis in 1946 when called to be associate rabbi of Temple Israel.
