Berry, Jean de France, duc de, 1340-1416

The third son of King Jean II of France. After the death of his brother Charles V, Jean de Berry and his brothers acted as regents for their nephew and heir to the throne Charles VI between 1380 and 1388 and between 1392 and 1402. Although Charles VI ended the regency in 1388, he continued to suffer from psychological afflictions, which caused struggles for power among the nobility. After the death of his brothers, the duc de Berry became active in attempting to end the feud between his nephews Louis I de Valois, duc d'OrleĢans and Jean II, duc de Bourgogne.
