The two cedulas, dated February 20, 1534, commanded that steps be taken to make the Chagres River navigable, to erect structures necessary for a commercial port in Panama City, and that investigations be made concerning the feasibility of connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. It includes material pertaining to the Catholic Church in Peru, missionaries, the conquest of Chile, Indians of Peru, and Indian slavery. There are materials regarding the cities of Arequipa, Cuzco, Lima, and Quito. Of note are letters and decrees of Charles V and Philip II, letters of the Pizarros, reports of La Gasca, and Pedro de Valdivia's account of the conquest of Chile.
