Papers relating to the fresco Cenacolo di Foligno at S. Onofrio in Florence, 1847-1849.Balzani, Giovanni 19th cent..Garganetti, Gargano Gargani 19th cent.Papers relating to the fresco Cenacolo di Foligno at S. Onofrio in Florence, 1847-1849.11 items. The collection comprises 8 documents written in the first years of the controversy generated by the attribution of the Cenacolo di Foligno fresco in the refectory of the ex-convent of S. Onofrio in Florence. Also included are 3 sheets of drawings and a copy of a Latin inscription in the Palazzo del Podestà in Florence. The documents relate to the most fierce adversaries in the years after the discovery: Giovanni Balzani (owner of the fresco and pro Raphael), and G.G. Garganetti, for the advocates of a Florentine artist, sustained by Cav. M. Bagni (cf. Scarpellini, Perugino, 1984.) The main argument of the latter is an old Florentine painting, similar to the fresco, offered for sale by an antiques vendor.
