(206 p.) ; 24 x 15 cm.Manuscript on paper, in a single hand, of a collection of poems, the text of which is that of the second edition of Sparke's "Scintillula Altaris"(1660). The verses address the feasts of various saints and holy days, and are followed by George Herbert's "Divine Charmes and Knotts" and lengthy selections from Guillaume de Salluste Du Bartas's verses on the creation of the world. These are followed by short poems on both biblical subjects as "On Esau and Jacob" and "On Judas Iscariot" as well as more general religious topics as "On Confession" and "On non-conformists" and people such as "Uppon King Charles the First" and "On Williams Archbishopp of Yorke." At the end of the manuscript, in another hand, are two prose meditations on sin, confession, and repentance, "translated out of John Gerard's holy meditations."
