Lehman published short stories, novellas, and articles in a variety of popular magazines in the 1940s and early 50s, and was later a regular contributor to American Film magazine with his "Lehman at Large" column from 1978 to 1981, all of which are represented in the collection. The bulk of the collection relates to Lehman's career as a screenwriter and film producer. Filmscripts and other materials are present for all of Lehman's films, but North by Northwest, Portnoy's Complaint, The Prize, The Sound of Music, West Side Story, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? are the most extensively documented. Correspondents include actors and actresses, editors, directors, producers, and writers, such as Alfred Hitchcock, Richard Rodgers, Rod Serling, Elizabeth Taylor, Victor Weybright, and Richard Zanuck.
