Biographical History

Renee Falconetti, born Renee Jeanne Falconetti was an actress of both stage and silent screen. Her only film was The Passion of Joan of Arc . The controversy which surrounds her regards her name. She was billed in the film as Maria, however, research shows Maria and Renee are probably the same actress known to the French theater community as La Falconetti.

From the guide to the Warren Boroson collection of Renée Falconetti material, 1962, (The New York Public Library. Billy Rose Theatre Division.)

Renée Falconetti, actress of stage and screen, was born in France in 1892.

Known by her contemporaries as La Falconetti, her career was brief. Her only film and most important work was the silent film, THE PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC (1927). After this film she sank into obscurity. She died in 1946.
