Biographical History
Soldier, jurist, and frontiersman.
After serving as a New Jersey legislator, judge, and Continental Congressman, Symmes purchased a million acres in Ohio in 1787, where he established several settlements including Cincinnati.
The collection consists of a photostat of a letter from Symmes in Vincennes to Robert Morris in New York, June 22, 1790. Symmes describes Vincennes and its citizens, problems with land titles, and his colleague on the bench.
