Biographical History

Patrick Joseph Buchanan (b. 1938), politician, journalist, syndicated columnist, and television commentator, served as Executive Assistant to Richard M. Nixon from 1966 to 1969. He also served as Special Assistant to President Nixon from 1969 to 1973; consultant to Presidents Nixon and Gerald R. Ford from 1973 to 1974; and Assistant to President Reagan and Director of Communications in the White House, 1985 to 1987. He was a candidate for the Republican Nomination for President in 1992 and 1996, and a candidate for President in 2000 for the Reform Party. Buchanan has also worked for many years as a radio and television commentator. He was a commentator for NBC Radio Network from 1978 to 1982, and was also a commentator on the following television shows: co-host of Crossfire on CNN from 1982 to 1985, 1987 to 1991, 1993 to 1995, and 1997 to 1999; panelist on The McLaughlin Group on NBC from 1982 to 1985, 1988 to 1992, 1997 to 1999, and 2001; and moderator of the Capital Gang on CNN from 1988 to 1992.
