Biographical History
Tanaquil Le Clercq was born in 1929 and began dance training at age seven with Mikhail Mordkin, and in 1941 at the School of American Ballet. She was a member of Ballet Society in 1946 and New York City Ballet in 1948 and was a featured dancer in works by George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins. She was married to Balanchine from 1952-1969. While touring with New York City Ballet in 1956 she contracted polio which ended her dance career.
