Biographical History

F.S. Kelly was an Australian born composer and pianist. He was an adviser to the Clasical Society and appeared in concerts, both in England and Australia (1911). Kelly is also remembered for his achievements as an oarsman. He was killed in France in action in 1916.

Musician, rower and soldier. Born in Sydney, Kelly was educated at Eton and Oxford. Achieved numerous victories in England as a sculler and was a member of the British eights crew that won the gold medal at the 1908 Olympic Games. Performed as a pianist at public and private recitals and wrote a number of compositions, mainly for the piano. Enlisted in the Royal Naval Division in 1914 and served at Gallipoli and France, where he was killed.
