U.S. representative and senator from New Jersey.
Dayton was a Representative (1795-1799) and Senator (1799-1805) in the U.S. Congress from New Jersey. He was also in the Continental Congress and was the youngest signer of the U.S. Constitution. The city of Dayton, Ohio is named for him.
Jonathan Dayton (1760-1824) served as a Delegate, Representative, and Senator from New Jersey, as the Speaker of the House to the Fourth and Fifth Congresses, and was also involved in the Aaron Burr affair from 1805 to 1807.
