Biographical History

George Washington Lafayette Fox (1825-1877) was a stage clown who became famous in the role of Humpty Dumpty, a role he played over 1,000 times. In later years he was afflicted with dementia, possibly a result of the lead-based clown white makeup he wore onstage.

From the description of Mr. Fox : a rumination / by Bill Irwin, 2004. (New York Public Library). WorldCat record id: 680326125
