Biographical History

Charles Carter Lee (1798-1871) was a Virginia lawyer and poet. Other major correspondents are Henry "Light Horse" Lee (1756-1818), Revolutionary soldier, governor of Virginia, member of Congress, and author; Major Henry Lee (1787-1837), soldier in the War of 1812, author of letters and speeches for Andrew Jackson, U.S. Consul-General at Algiers, and biographer of Napoleon; and John Penn Lee (1867- ), lawyer.
