British author and screenwriter.

Thomas Ernest Bennett Clarke, 1907-1989, wrote numerous story outlines and original screenplays for Ealing Studios, including the screenplay for The Lavender Hill Mob for which he won the Academy Award and Venice Award for 1952. In addition, he wrote screen adaptations for such works as A Tale of Two Cities and D.H. Lawrence's Sons and Lovers which earned him an Oscar nomination. He also wrote television scripts and a play This Undesirable Residence. His writings consist mostly of fiction, but include an autobiography, What's Yours?: The Student's Guide to Publand, newspaper and magazine articles.
