Blumenthal Family

Hide Profile

I.D. and his younger brother Herman, were originally from Savannah, Georgia. After a chance meeting between I.D. Blumenthal and George Ray, an auto mechanic, Blumenthal and Ray established the Radiator Specialty Company in Charlotte in the early 1920s. After Ray died, Blumenthal bought out his late partner's share from his estate, and brought in Herman to help run the business. Over the years, Radiator Specialty expanded its line of automotive products and accumulated a great deal of wealth. The Blumenthals donated large amounts of money to a wide variety of charitable causes, and earned for themselves reputations as some of North Carolina's most generous philanthropists. They were steadfast in their Jewish faith and very much interested in Zionism and Jewish history.
