Wall, H. S. (Hubert Stanley), 1902-1971

Wall received his Ph. D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1927. He was a professor of mathematics at the University of Texas at Austin (1946-1971) where he utilized the discovery-based Moore method of teaching in his classroom. His research interests included continued fractions, Hellinger integrals, group theory, and infinite processes.

The Legacy of H. S. Wall Project, established by the Educational Advancement Foundation, helps support research relating to the mathematician Hubert Stanley Wall (1902-1971).

He taught pure mathematics at the University of Texas at Austin (1946-1971), where he directed the doctoral work of 66 students. Wall was a proponent of the "Moore Method," the discovery-based method of teaching developed by his colleague at UT, R. L. Moore.
