Biographical notes:

Dow was a leading temperance advocate and mayor of Portland (Maine). John A. Rockwell (1803-1861) graduated from Yale in 1862 and served as a Whig Congressman from Conn., 1845-1849. Alfred Rockwell was a Civil War general.
