Thomas Dixon, attorney, legislator, clergyman, author, and motion picture producer, was born 11 January 1864, in Shelby, North Carolina, and died 3 April 1946, in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was admitted to the North Carolina bar (1886); served one term in the North Carolina Legislature (1885-1886); was ordained a Baptist minister (1886) and held pastorates in North Carolina and New York City (1886-1899); was a lyceum lecturer (1899-1904); wrote twenty-two published novels (1902-1930s); opened a movie studio (1915); and served as clerk of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina (1938-1943).
