Paul Revere (1735-1818), patriot and craftsman of Boston, Mass., was a silversmith, copper-plate engraver, foundry owner, and political cartoonist. He was also a participant in the Boston Tea Party and official courier for the provincial assembly, in which capacity he frequently travelled with messages and warnings, the most notable of which contributed to the outbreak of the Revolution. During the war, Revere printed the first issue of continental money, manufactured gunpowder, and later invented a process for rolling sheet copper.
