Benjamin Franklin Cheatham (1820-1886) was born in Nashville, Tenn. He served in the U.S. Army as captain and colonel in the Mexican War, later going to California, 1849-1853, and returning to Tennessee to serve as major general in the state militia during the 1850s. Cheatham became a major-general in the Confederate Army in 1862 and served under Polk, Hardee, and Hood.

Benjamin Franklin Cheatham (1820-1886) was born in Nashville, Tenn.
