1834- c 1941 teacher, arabic typographer and translator for Methodist, American prostestant and Anglican missions to Malta; 1835-1836 American Board of Commissions for Foreign Missions (ABCFM) press, Beirut; c 1830s Church Missionary Society; 1841-1842 studied at the Church Missionary Society college at Islington, London; 1842 ordained, Church of England; 1842-1844 emissary of the bishop of London and archbishop of Canterbury to the Nestorian Church of the East in Kurdistan; 1845 and 1862 chaplain, diocese of Bombay; 1856-1857 accompanied the campaign of general Sir James Outram in Persia; 1860 served on the commission to Oman; 1861-1862 conducted a survey in Eqypt of military installations and of the Suez Canal workings; 1872-1878 diplomatic missions to Zanzibar; 1873 DCL by the archbishop of Canterbury.
