Campbell was born in Newark, N.J., on June 10, 1910 and he went on to school at M.I.T. and Duke. Campbell worked in the research dept. of MackTruck and Carleton Ellis Chemicals, and between 1937 and 1971 edited.

Astounding Science Fiction (later Analog) and received numerous Hugo Awards for Editing. Campbell's novels included The mightiest machine, Theincredible planet, and Islands of space.
